Chablis, Burgundy, France | 100% Chardonnay | 13% ABV
From the parish priest’s garden to your glass.
Tasting note
Fresh, graceful and full of character, this Chablis opens with green apple, bright lemon and delicate white flowers, accompanied by a subtle herbal note reminiscent of thyme. On the palate, generous citrus fruit meets a smooth, rounded texture, with a cool, stony mineral character running through the wine. Lively acidity keeps everything beautifully balanced, leading to a lingering finish of apple, citrus and refreshing savoury detail. A wine with both finesse and substance, offering something new as it opens in the glass.
The story behind the name
Jardin du Curé means “the parish priest’s garden”, and its name preserves a charming piece of local history. This special cuvée comes from a small vineyard near the village church in Beine, on land that was once the priest’s garden. Today, Chardonnay grows in this little corner of Chablis country, keeping its connection to the village alive through a wine that carries the garden’s name.
The family story is equally grounded in the countryside. Domaine de la Motte traces its beginnings to the 1960s, when Henri Michaut divided his time between crops, cattle and just two hectares of vines. His sons helped develop the estate, and today his grandson Adrien Michaut continues that family tradition—a third generation tending the vineyards and making the wines.
Provenance and character
Made entirely from Chardonnay, Jardin du Curé comes from a 1.5-hectare parcel in Beine, with south- and southeast-facing slopes and the Kimmeridgian clay-limestone soils for which Chablis is renowned. The estate describes vines averaging around 40 years of age, giving this small vineyard an established place in the family’s range. A portion of the 2022 wine was matured in oak, complementing its fine texture and depth.
At the table
Our pairing suggestions: grilled prawns with lemon butter, pan-fried fish, sushi, or roast chicken with a light cream sauce. Its citrus freshness suits seafood beautifully, while its rounded texture gives it the substance to accompany richer dishes. Serve around 12°C to enjoy the full expression of its fruit and floral aromas.
